Apply for Membership with the 72nd Virtual Fighter Wing
After registering on the web site, please fill out and submit the application form below (you will be required to Register if you haven't already). After filling out the form you will be required to complete an Interview (on Skype or Teamspeak) and an online multiplayer Evaluation Flight before your application can be reviewed/accepted. Due to the sheer number of applications we receive and the limited amount of total instructor hours available, we like to get to know the applicants well in order to select the best virtual fliers we can and ensure a good fit for all.
We are open to applicants worldwide, however we don't accept applications from people under the age of 18. In addition, we do not allow Dual Membership in another squadron dedicated to BMS. If you are accepted into training with the 72nd VFW you would agree to resign from any other BMS-focused Squadron. However, you are allowed to be a member of other squadrons focused on other flight sims such as DCS, IL-2, RoF, etc.
Application selection is NOT based on previous Flight Sim experience, but rather, an applicant’s enthusiasm, motivation, willingness to learn, and esprit de corps. We accept all skill levels and have a comprehensive training program that is paced and based on the flier’s needs. We DO NOT role-play Air Force, however when in the virtual pit we do try to create an atmosphere of realism and conduct ourselves as proficiently and professionally as possible.
We have a very strong tendency to select people we know and fly with. Therefore, the most effective way to get accepted is to join in -- participate in our forums, hang out on our Teamspeak server, fly with us in both our Open Flight Nights and pick-up flights and generally make yourself known to as many of our members as possible (in a good way of course). Don't worry if you're still learning the sim or have never flown online, we will help you with all of that. Your acceptance requires a significant commitment from both of us and we want to know that after completing training, you're going to stick around and fly with us.
Before submitting an application, please keep in mind that joining the Wing and completing the training program will take a significant commitment of your time. Students will typically need to fly one to two times a week with their instructor and each flight will take between 1 to 2 hours. Students will also typically need about 8 to 15 flights with their instructors. In addition, the student will need to practice offline on their own in order to become proficient and pass a checkride before they are made full members of the Wing. If a student can not devote the required time and effort to their training, they will be dropped from the class. So it's best not to apply until you know you can make the commitment and complete training. We want to be upfront about the commitment required because almost every time a student has not completed training it was because they were not able to commit to the required effort.
Please Note: Applicants will be accepted into the training program only if there is an instructor pilot available to begin your training immediately. If we think you will be a good fit but do not have any instructors immediately available, we will place you in a queue for a future slot.
