About the 72nd VFW

What we do

The 72nd Virtual Fighter Wing is a global community of flight simulation enthusiasts focused on realism and camaraderie in Falcon BMS. Founded in 2006, we welcome members from all over the world.

Weekly Flight Nights

  • 617th Virtual Fighter Squadron: Saturdays at 7pm PST / 10pm EST (3:00 ZULU)
  • 47th Virtual Fighter Squadron: Thursdays at 7pm CEST / 6pm GMT (18:00 ZULU)

To accommodate different time zones, we fly multiple packages at various start times. We also host regular events, open to members of other virtual wings.

Beyond scheduled flights, we offer training sessions for both new and experienced members, plus casual pick-up flights for anyone wanting to fly outside the regular schedule.

Structure

Internally, the 72nd VFW is divided into four squadrons, each with its own unique character and purpose:

  • 617th "Pale Riders" Virtual Fighter Squadron is based around American time zones.
  • 47th "Ronin" Virtual Fighter Squadron is centered on European time zones.
  • 87th "Stormbringers" Virtual Fighter Squadron is currently suspended, but remains a part of our history and legacy.
  • 55th "Double Nickel" Virtual Training Squadron serves as the home for applicants and is the gateway to full membership in the 72nd VFW.

Each squadron has its own leadership team, training program, and flight schedule. While members are welcome to fly with any squadron, we all come together for larger events and membership activities, fostering a strong sense of community and camaraderie.

Membership Requirements

  • Age:Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • Exclusivity: We do not allow dual membership in another squadron dedicated to Falcon BMS. If accepted into the 72nd VFW, you agree to resign from any other BMS-focused group. Membership in squadrons for other sims (DCS, IL-2, RoF, etc.) is welcome.
  • Commitment: Training requires dedication from both you and the squadron. We are looking for pilots who plan to stick around and fly with us long term.

What We Look For

We don't select pilots based on flight sim experience. Instead, we value:

  • Enthusiasm
  • Motivation
  • Willingness to learn
  • Team spirit and camaraderie

All skill levels are welcome. Our comprehensive training program is paced around each flier's needs. While we don't role-play as the Air Force, we do try to create an atmosphere of realism and conduct ourselves as proficiently and professionally as possible.

How to Get Accepted

The best way to become part of the 72nd VFW is to get involved:

  • Join us on our Discord server
  • Fly with us during Open Events or pick-up flights
  • Get to know our members (and let us get to know you!)

Don't worry if you're new to online flying or still learning the sim—we'll help you every step of the way.
